About Us

The Greater Westfield Community Band (GWCB) was founded in 1996 by Gene Bartley. Gene had two three purposes in mind: to give adult amateur musicians a chance to play in a large ensemble, to promote music education in Westfield and continually keep the public aware of the importance of music in our schools.

The GWCB is a concert band and is open to all adult musicians. The only requirement is that participants be able to read music. The GWCB performs a fall and spring concert. There are six weeks of rehearsals prior to each concert. The rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9 and at North Middle School in Westfield, Massachusetts.

2011 Fall Season begins Soon

Hello Everyone,
After so many weather disasters this spring and summer, I hope that you are as eager to begin this year’s fall GWCB season as I am. Since the concert date will fall so close to November 11th, we will dedicate our concert to our veterans. We expect that you will attend all six rehearsals but in order to perform on the concert, you must attend at least four rehearsals. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again! All rehearsals and the concert will be held at the North Middle School on Southampton Rd. in Westfield and all will start at 7:30 PM sharp. Here is the schedule:

What a Great Concert!

The performance on April 13th exceeded all expectations! There's no doubt that the music on this program was a challenge for all (including the conductor). Those of you who participated with us this spring are to be commended for your efforts. We definitely rose to the challenge. Our next concert will include a balanced number of difficult and easier pieces. Our first rehearsal will be held on September 26th. I hope that you will all be there. Enjoy your summer but also remember to take those instruments out once in a while to keep up your "chops".

Community Band Invitation to Adult Musicians

The Greater Westfield Community Band will begin its spring season on March 7, 2011. The band will rehearse for six Monday nights in preparation for a concert to be performed on April 13th. All rehearsals and the concert will start at 7:30 PM, and will be held at the Westfield North Middle School on Southampton Road in Westfield.

Adult band musicians are cordially invited to join this ensemble. Auditions are not required, but musicians must be able to read music. For more information, call music director Eugene Bartley at (860) 668-0870.

2010 Fall Season

The Great Westfield Community Band is getting ready to kick off the 2010 Fall Season. Our performance is scheduled on November 17th at North Middle School on Southampton Rd in Westfield. The rehearsals are on Monday evenings at 7:30 starting on October 4th and ending on November 15th.

As always, the Great Westfield Community Band is looking for new instrumentalists. All abilities are welcome, but it is a requirement that you can read music. If you are interested in playing, please contact Gene Bartley at (860)668-0870 or click the "Contact Us" link at the top of this page.
